Jenny Lyon - Cert.Ed., BA (Hon.), M.Sc., C.Psychol. British Psychological Society
Chartered Educational Psychologist

Learning Support Specialist
After specialising in working with children who had specific literacy difficulties (dyslexia) I established the learning support department at Aiglon College, a leading International School in Switzerland where I spent 4 years.

Educational Psychologist
Over the last 17 years, I have worked as a psychologist in the UK, and also for a number of international schools in Switzerland. These include: Aiglon College and Beau Soleil in Villars, Leysin American School in Leysin, St George’s School in Montreux, La Châtaigneraie in Geneva, Collège du Léman in Geneva, Geneva English School, International School of Monts de Corsier and the International School of Lausanne.

In 1985 I founded International Psychology Services (IPS), a training organisation dealing with childhood developmental disorders. At the same time, I helped to establish a multi-professional tertiary AD/HD Clinic in the UK. The clinic was also involved in research under the direction of the University of Sussex.

Lecturer
I have lectured to over 7,000 health and education professionals on Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD).

Researcher
I have been a visiting research fellow at the University of Sussex, working with Dr Nicola Yuill, Senior Lecturer in developmental cognitive psychology. Our most recent paper, recently accepted for publication, is titled: Selective difficulty in recognising facial expressions of emotions in boys with AD/HD: General performance impairment or specific problems in social cognition?

Author
I have written numerous articles, leaflets and guidelines on AD/HD including an award-winning booklet for children with this disorder.

Interests
I have a particular interest in language difficulties (expressive, receptive and pragmatic), dyslexia, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, non-verbal learning difficulties and AD/HD

QUALIFICATIONS
Certificate in Education
This UK qualification is obtained after 3 years of training, and one year of supervised teaching. It enables the holder to register as a qualified teacher of both primary and secondary age children. I specialised in English, Philosophy, Psychology and teaching methodology, obtaining distinctions in all subjects, and qualifying in 1967 from the University of Birmingham, England. I completed and followed my training by teaching children of all ages for the following 10 years, 4 of which were spent in a Swiss international school.

BA (Honours)
I obtained a first class honours degree in Developmental Psychology from the University of Sussex, England, in 1990.

M.Sc. (Educational Psychology)
After studying at the University of Southampton, I achieved a master’s degree in 1991. My research project was on the nature and identification of dyslexia.
